When the temperature falls in Central Wisconsin, it’s time for you to reboot your HVAC system to keep your home warm for the winter months ahead. Before it gets too cold, Steve’s Plumbing & Heating can help you go down your checklist to make sure the entire system is working as it should. Our certified heating and cooling contractors can identify any issues that may be plaguing your boiler or furnace and fix we get too deep into winter. Here are some of the problems we look for:

Air Conditioning System Pressure

When we check the A/C pressure, we will discover any leaks that need to be sealed before we switch over to the heating system. It’s better to check for leaks now than in the spring when you want to start the A/C back up again.

Clean Filters and Equipment

Filters are one of the most fundamental yet essential parts of taking care of your heating equipment. If you have a permanent filter, you need to clean it at least once a month. You should change disposable filters once a month as well. Also, we need to clean your entire system including the ductwork. We recommend a good cleaning at least once a year. You’ll notice an increase in the flow of air after we clean all the components.

Test the Thermostat

We will test the thermostat for accuracy. We may need to calibrate it if it’s off. We will also check to make sure that all the wiring is in excellent condition and that there are no loose connections or corrosion. If you have an old manual thermostat, wintertime is the perfect time to upgrade to a programmable or smart thermostat.

Carbon Monoxide Levels

If you or someone in your family is suffering from fatigue or constant headaches, it could be that the carbon monoxide levels are too high in your home. It's a life-threatening issue if you don’t take care of it. We can check the levels to see how much carbon monoxide the system is releasing. If there is a problem with your furnace will find it and make the necessary repair.

Clean the Ductwork

Dirty ductwork means that polluted air is circulating through the system. A good cleaning will remove all the contaminants in the duct channels so that you can breathe easier this winter. You should have your ductwork cleaned at least once every one to two years.
