We’ve all had it happen to us: the dishwasher fails to work. In many cases, the problem is that the dishwasher fails to fill up with water. Steve’s Plumbing and heating can inspect your dishwasher to make sure that it is performing properly and cleans your dishes. To schedule a plumbing repair, contact us today.
Below are some possible reasons why your dishwasher is not filling up with water.
Water Inlet Valve
If the dishwasher does not fill with water, the first point to check would be the inlet supply valve to verify that there is sufficient water pressure. Is there is power going to the value during the fill portion of the cycle? This is usually the first part to be checked to ensure there is sufficient water supply and power to the dishwasher.
Another frequent problem area is a float that doesn’t, well, float. The job of a float is to trigger the switch when the water level fills to a certain height, stopping the excess water flow. There is a possibility of the float activating the switch before the optimum height is reached, and could indicate a potential problem with the float mechanism.
We can check the inlet to make sure that it is properly working. If not we may have to replace it.
This is situated just below the dishwasher float and gets activated by the float mechanism described above. If this gets activated earlier than the water level required to run the washer, it will malfunction.
A door switch prevents you from opening the door when the dishwasher is filled with water, while preventing a flood on your kitchen floor! If the switch is malfunctioning, the dishwasher will not fill with water. This switch resides between the inner door & outer door and isn’t visible or accessible from the outside.
